Future Folklore Story Swap | 002: Home
WHAT IS FUTURE FOLKLORE?
The Future Folklore Project is a living archive of the stories we choose to carry forward. Through intimate gatherings, communal prompts, creative rituals, and collaborative portraiture, the project invites people to reflect on the narratives that have shaped them—those they’ve inherited, resisted, rewritten, or are still learning to understand.
Each gathering centers around a theme (like rest, belonging, or urgency) and offers a space to share stories aloud, swap books, and co-create new language for the futures we want to build.
THEME: HOME
What does it mean to feel at home, in a place, in a body, in a moment?
In this session, we’ll explore home as more than a structure or location. We'll reflect on how our definitions of home have shifted over time, the homes we've lost or longed for, and the ones we're still building. Through shared stories and creative reflection, we’ll begin to imagine more expansive, nourishing versions of home, within and around us.
WHAT TO EXPECT
• A community book swap (bring one to share!)
• Reflections from a few invited voices on their personal relationship to home
• Small group conversations
• A collaborative story exercise: craft a one-sentence narrative about the home you want to create
• A film portrait taken by Leah, with your story overlaid—part of an evolving "living archive"
BRING
• A book you love (or are ready to pass on). It doesn't have to be related to the theme!
• A friend who’d vibe with this
• An open heart and a curious mind
